I’ve been playing the lotto for 20 years. Growing up in the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos – this was more than just a hobby – playing numbers, as we call it, was a passion. However, I lost more than I won in the 1980’s. The Pick 3 Lotto was my game and I couldn’t buy a win. I was just about to give up altogether when a friend of mine hired me to sell Lotto numbers for him in 1996. I got a percentage of the numbers I sold and it was good income but I kept on losing my profit on a daily basis. As fast as the money was coming in it was going out.

Turks and Caicos are located 575 miles southeast of Miami Florida. We are 30 miles south of the Bahamas and 90 miles north of the Dominican Republic. The main islands consist of two groups separated by the Columbus Island Passage: The Turks Group, which includes Grand Turk and Salt Cay, and the Caicos Group, which includes West Caicos, Providenciales, North Caicos, Middle Caicos, East Caicos, and South Caicos.

We have thought outside of the traditional Rotary Conference box to bring you a life changing experience. We do things differently in the Bahamas and Conference 2008 will be no exception! We will share our conference (Thursday evening to Saturday evening) with Rotary District 6930 and District Governor Phil Lustig. DG Phill will bring his Rotarians to Atlantis from Florida (think Boca Raton to Cape Canaveral) and join us as we make the first double District Conference in our District's history. Think of the opportunities to liaise with and become Rotarian friends with Rotarians from another District. We can help each other in development of community service projects, matching grants, twinning and other programmes designed to make our communities better places to live.

Along with $10,000 in cash prizes and approximately $15,000 in subsidiary prizes such as dive travel, cameras and photographic equipment, the Grand Prize Winners will have their photographs published by the Government of the Turks & Caicos Islands as a set of commemorative postage stamps, each bearing a winning photograph, the photographer's name and country of origin.

The Turks and Caicos Hotel, Tourism and Training Institute (TCHTTI) is a full service training program preparing people for careers in the tourism and hospitality industries. NAP is the central advisory, planning and policy-making body for a comprehensive and integrated HIV/AIDS prevention and control program in the Turks & Caicos Islands. As a part of its overall public health mission, NAP provides national leadership in helping control and fight the HIV epidemic by working with community and international partners on research, prevention and treatment programs and creating an environment where people can effectively respond to the many challenges of HIV/AIDS.
