TCHTA SUPPORTS INTER SCHOOL TRACK & FIELD COMPETITION

PROVIDENCIALES, Turks & Caicos Islands – March 6, 2008
The Turks & Caicos Hotel Association (TCHTA) supported the 2008 TCI National Schools Track and Field Championships held recently in Providenciales at the Turks and Caicos Islands National Stadium.  Some 730 athletes from 24 public and private primary schools and 340 athletes from 10 public and private high schools competed for the honour of Champion School.  The TCHTA sponsored Iris Stubbs Primary School’s athletes’ accommodations at Comfort Suites during their stay.  The Primary School Championships included children ranging in age from seven to 13 in a variety of track and field including relay races, the high jump, the long jump, tennis ball throw, softball throw and races from 50m to 800m.

“Events like this add to the overall education our children receive.  Competing in athletics is an important component of education and we are grateful to the TCHTA for supporting us and enabling our children to participate in this exciting and worthwhile event,” said Mrs. Kathleen Durham, Head Mistress of the Iris Stubbs Primary School.

In May, the TCHTA announced it adopted the Iris Stubbs Primary School in South Caicos as a way to give back to the community and encourage interest and understanding of the opportunities presented by the hotel and tourism industry.
